In Service -It’s a God Thing

Philippians 2:4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others

I recognize the times God has placed me in situations to make a difference and I am humbled. Club 21 was one of those situations.  I was invited to join forces with a very small group of moms to come up with educational solutions for our kids with Down syndrome.  My daughter, Tara, was nine when we began meeting at (Director) Nancy Litteken’s house. She had a vision. She believed we could come together with creativity and love to avoid ”re-inventing the wheel” for each of our prospective children and then share the fruits of our think tank with others.  That collaborative effort has born a successful non-profit organization in Pasadena, California.  Though I am no longer participating in the daily workings of Club 21, it has been a “God-thing” in my life and I am blessed to have been involved in the creation of such an amazing organization. Tara is still a participant and continues to thrive under its loving auspices.

Club 21 is working hard to serve not only people with Down syndrome but families, teachers, volunteers, and all caregivers from doctors to therapists.  One of the most beautiful gestures is the warm welcome extended to moms who’ve received an in-utero diagnosis of Down syndrome.  Families are embraced with an uplifting personal visit from one of our moms, leaving a basket of informational and comforting goodies.

October is a special month for our family.  It’s not only Tara’s birthday (27 on the 15th), but Halloween is fast-approaching and it’s time for the

Annual Club 21 WALKATHON !!  Please click here for more information and please consider making a donation in Tara Welflin’s name.
