The Miracle

Ronnie was three years old when he was rescued by his guardian angel.

I was walking with him from his preschool to the lower level parking lot. He and his friend, Thomas, took off running toward the stairs. He yelled out,
“Watch this mommy!”

Before I knew it, he was over the rail, falling head first. He was dropping 15’ to the blacktop. I screamed his name and ran down the stairs. I don’t think I had a split second to even be terrified for what I might find. I couldn’t think about anything but getting to him. I rounded the bannister where Thomas stood. My baby boy was trying to sit up using the cement parking block. He was screaming silently as tears poured down his face. I tried to comfort him as I desperately searched his head and body for the point of impact, because he surely broke something with his fall. I found no bruise, abrasion, scratch or blood. I was bewildered and confused as to what to do next. I held him as his tears flowed.

I looked up to see Thomas at the bottom of the stairs with his big blue eyes open wide watching as we held each other on the ground. I didn’t ask him what he saw but he must’ve wondered how Ronnie got to the bottom before him. So many questions went through my mind. Should I call for help? Should I dial 911? Why didn’t any of the other moms come to help when I screamed? I decided to take Thomas home, pick up my daughter from her therapy and get home. Trust me, it wasn’t that simple. I questioned my actions.

I kept my eye on him all day in case there were any signs of trauma. I detected nothing unusual as he played near me in silence. What happened next changed me forever. In our home, 7:00 p.m. was the time to begin unwinding the kids. Bath time preceded a story and sleep. As I undressed Ronnie for his bath, I examined his body again. Then I saw it. On his thigh I found a handprint. It was pink, like a burn, but it was not a burn. It was the size of an adult hand and I quietly shuddered, trying not to scare him. I instantly understood why there were no cuts or bruises or death. His guardian angel caught him mid-flight and set him down gently.

This supernatural event has strengthened my belief in the Holy Spirit and the angels that are charged with our care and protection. I share this story to encourage others.

Psalm 91:11
“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
