Yellow Submarine

I share this moment in time to inspire relationship and gratitude for conversation with and without words.

Our day started out like most. We were in the car listening to music. I turned to Tara for any special requests.
She mumbled something, but it was unintelligible.
”Please say it again” I pleaded.

After multiple requests, I could feel her frustration and confusion. I simply did not understand what she was trying to say. I pulled over and parked the car. I tried to help by making suggestions of familiar titles and artists. I even tried defusing the moment by being silly. She was disgusted with me.

Finally, I had a breakthrough. OMG!! How could I have missed it.
YELLOW SUBMARINE! The Beatles!
This is a teaching moment, I thought.
“Yell – ow – Sub – ma – rine” I said, slowly and deliberately.
NOPE…she refused to listen. She refused to follow my lead.

By now she was so angry and I was so sad I could feel the burn in my tear ducts. I tried to shake it off. I reached over and placed my hand over hers on her lap. We continued our journey on the road, listening to Yellow Submarine.

The song played on as I continued to drive to our destination. We were both hurt but not with each other. We were hurt with the disability. When we reached our destination, she turned to me, looked right into my eyes and slowly and carefully said,
“Ye-low-sub-ma-rine”
I praised her, and we held each other in an embrace that needed no words.

Psalm 37:5
Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.
